NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA – An accident on Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a man who was working at Sam’s Club in Northeast Philadelphia.
The incident occurred around 1:30 o’clock in the afternoon at 1000 Franklin Mills Circle. According to the police, the man was working on an alarm system when he fell through the roof.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities identified the fatality as Robert Semmens, 55 years old and a resident of Edgewater Park. He died Tuesday afternoon when he fell from a ceiling while working at Sam’s Club at the Northeast section of the city.
Semmens sustained a head injury and died at the scene shortly after 2 p.m. He was repairing an alarm system when he fell an estimated height of 10 to 12 feet.
The incident happened at the company’s Franklin Mills Circle location.
Sam’s Club spokesman Mark Scott said that the 55-year-old man was working at a Sam’s Club store in Northeast Philadelphia when he fell through the roof and died at the scene. Officials identified the casualty as Robert Semmens who was described as a Wal-Mart Inc. associate and came from Edgewater Park. Semmens was working on the alarm system of Sam’s Club at 1000 Franklin Mills Circle when he fell through the roof at 1:38 p.m. He suffered severe head trauma and died on the scene a short time later.
Scott said that Wal-Mart family has lost a valued member and is extending their thoughts and prayers to his family.
Authorities are looking into the accident to find out why the man fell from the roof..
